Donation Drive for Puerto Rico
Next Saturday, Jan 13, the Kiwanis Club of Wilmington will conduct another collection of food, water, clothes and other essentials for the people of Puerto Rico. In greatest need is food: Rice and Beans plus food that can be eaten right out of the can.
The second in an ongoing effort, the club hopes to surpass the success of Nov 11th, when they collected over 3 tons of supplies. Materials will be turned over to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, which maintains a Disaster Relief Recovery Program. They have people on the ground to distribute the materials to the people in need - and their own truck drivers!
Also needed:
- Clothes, all sizes, types, gender, age. (used is OK, but would you wear them?)
- Pots and Pans
- Cooking tools
- flashlights
- batteries
- winning Megabucks tickets
- cleaning supplies
- bedding
- toys (yes, Christmas was bleak)
- letters of hope and encouragement
- shoes
- sandals
- flip-flops
- The list is only limited to your imagination.
San Juan is getting restored, but the countryside is still in a horrible condition, homes destroyed, roads gone, electricity still not restored. No work. No pay. Nothing to buy. Many more months to go.
